One Team, One Aim

Saarang 2010 core team

The title of this post is the phrase that really struck me when I was surfing the web a few days back and got me thinking, because of the use of the word “aim”. I am sure all of us have heard variations of the same phrase which used the word goal, but never aim. And I guess the real reason it got me was that this is the philosophy behind the Saarang organizing team.

People have this way of looking at goals as fixed targets to be reached. This definition in itself is limiting at times. Substituting with the word “goal” with “aim” essentially gives us this philosophical leeway to explore all of our ideas, think out of the box and know that there are no limits to what we can achieve in these months leading up to Saarang.

Does this mean we don’t have any goals? Definitely not!! But rather than limiting targets, what we have for Saarang is a vision, a dream. Having worked with the team for the past few months, I can see the same thought process in all of them, using each target reached as a stepping stone for the next.

**Further surfing brought up the fact that this is one of the core philosophies of Toyota. Following in their footsteps, I guess we can’t be far off the mark now, can we?

We’re Back!!

From the modest beginnings as Mardi Gras, Saarang has achieved an iconic status today as the mother of all cultural fests.

Saarang 2009 was an astounding success, unquestionably the high point in the festival’s 40 year history. With performances from artists like Sonu Nigam adding to the festive atmosphere and initiatives like the 3-day long theater-fest, Saarang village and Mardras-Chennai express, Saarang 2009 ventured into hitherto unexplored territories and diversified itself to cater to a bigger audience.

Words are simply not enough to describe the atmosphere during the spell binding and magical night that was the rock show. And the perpetrators of this magic were Opeth, the Swedish death metal band who were performing for the first time in India. Holding ten thousand young adults captive for any amount of time is no mean feat. The fact that Opeth pulled it off for a few hours at a stretch just asserts to their greatness.

All of these efforts contributed toward Saarang 2009 setting new standards as far as student run cultural fests go.

And after a six month hiatus, the Saarang team is up and running again! Because who better to break those records set by Saarang 2009 than Saarang 2010?

With bigger professional shows and a think tank to give Saarang a fresh new look, Saarang 2010 is a stage set for exceeding expectations. With greater incentives and better platforms for participants, a long list of celebrities from varied fields of entertainment and a lot of informal events to keep you entertained, Saarang 2010 is all set to captivate and enchant you!

As we at IIT-M like to say, Saarang doesn’t meet your expectations, it exceeds them. We can at times find ourselves rushing and forgetting the important things that life has to offer. Saarang, in its essence is just a gentle reminder to us all that life is about living. To quote a participant,

“Love life, Live a Saarang”
