Because its Saarang

One day you wake up and see it happening.

Why we do it? Because its Saarang.

The forty Saarang teams till date have invested a time equal to the age of this events core to make each Saarang, The Saarang.

Why they did it? Because its Saarang.

Six months a year spent planning Saarang gives us in return five days when 50000 people put all their other plans on hold just to be here.

Why they do it? Because its Saarang.

A team envisions to put in place an event that no other festival ventures to organize merely because of the heavy odds against succeeding: the Theatre Fest.

Why we succeeded? Because its Saarang.

People in Chennai with have grown with memories of Saarang that most people like me coming from north of Vindhyas had been well oblivious of until we entered IITM. Yet, each year as we climb higher the ladder Saarang ceases to become merely a cultural festival for us; it becomes a part of being so important that one would rather be willing to watch Love Story 2050 50 times over just to be a part of this fest.

A fresher at IITM may miss classes, keep all other work aside just to move chairs in OAT to make the show happen. Now, that for me is Saarang.

To come to a place alone perhaps, participate in events, show some wits, win some goodies and walk back with a bunch of friends. That is Saarang for me.

All through the year, you walk past the OAT, dwarfed by its gigantic size and see it used only once a week if the rains permit. These five days you no longer walk past OAT. You become a part of it and with all the preparations leading to the proshow you make OAT come alive. It breathes, throbs and lives only these five days. That for me is Saarang.

You love to hear a voice over and over again. You want it to win at Saarang. If, however, on the day it doesnt you still walk back deeply satisfied because you know that the best voice in the auditorium has won. That for me is Saarang.

And then one day you wake up to see that its all over. But there is nothing more that could have been asked for. Nothing that could have made it livelier because those five days were a life itself. All this and more only because its Saarang.

Time to come alive. Time to live a Saarang.
