Well… a guy walked in, quite and bashful. He was one of those guys who was invisible and preferred to be so.
And then… Saarang happened to him! We decided to make him our mascot. So he had the ‘Saarang Makeover’.
Put your hands together for the man, who is bubbling with enthusiasm and diving into the crowd, RAGS!!!
The everyday guy you meet at a college culfest, full of spirit and ever-ready to have some fun; the guy who would mingle and jingle with music and masti of Saarang. Swaying with you at the LM Nite and head banging at the Rockshow, Rags is here to steal your heart. Go salsa with him through Saarang 2008!
Here’s welcoming Rags with a big hug!

Does the term Cavallino Rampante ring a bell?
No? Even so, spare a moment and use those grey cells, awakening them from their holiday.
This isn’t meant to be a discourse on etymology and strategies to figure out word origins. Nevertheless, hear me out. If you’ve played Age of Empires, you’d have come across the term “cavalier”. Cavalier refers to horse mounted cavalry, and this gives you an indirect reference to the word “Cavallino” – which you could now guess, has something to do with a horse.
Now, “rampante” could be connected to other commonly used English words like rampage and rampant – which mean: “violent in action or spirit” and “the act of an animal standing on its hind legs” respectively. Some might call it prancing.
So there you have it –
Cavallino Rampante = Prancing horse
It is a signature of Ferrari’s dominance and it’s ever dynamic spirit. It’s a stamp of class and the mark of product that’s a class apart. In a class of it’s own.
A warning for bubble headed optimists though – much as all of us at Saarang would love it– Ferrari isn’t sponsoring Saarang.
The objective of the opening paragraph was to drive home the fact – that every must-have product, and by a logical extrapolation – every must-visit event has a symbol that defines what it is, a mascot that distinctly identifies with the forte/charm/USP of it – and this time around, Saarang shall be no different.
Presenting, Ana and Rags.
Get it?
How about now –
“Saarang is the coming together of Ana and Rags”
If the rather un-subtle wordplay still escapes you, try visiting http://wordsmith.org/anagram
Ok, so it’s official. “Ana and Rags” is/are the mascot of Saarang. Ana is your typical girl-next-door girl and Rags, your everyday, down-to-earth boy. And you know what they say about irresistible force meeting immovable object. Together, they are going to rock Saarang.
Did you notice by the way, how gracious and gentlemanly it was of us to refer to the mascot as “Ana and Rags” and not “Rags and Ana”?

We’re pleased to announce the unveiling of the official Saarang 2008 logo, arrived at after much deliberation and taking into consideration requests from various quarters to not replicate beauty product logos.
The multitude of colors not only represent the immensely variegated events that Saarang boasts of, but also the coming together of a highly diversified group of people with different likes, dislikes, tastes and talents. The logo stands for the fact that in Saarang, there are no losers. Everyone’s an equal and its participating that really matters. However, as Karl Marx said, some participants need to be more equal that the others. This fact is symbolized by the fractal-esqe design of the inner circles – which stands for superficial imperfections amidst an underlying symmetry. So shake yourselves up and take a peep…into this kaleidoscope that we call Saarang.
Over the years, we’ve come to realize that different people view Saarang differently and so the logo, with its various hues, aims to cater to the various shades that different people might associate with Saarang. For some, it’s an escape from the monotony of every day college life. For others, it’s just another chapter, another stage - in the adventure of every day college life. Some come to Saarang with the aim of fattening their wallets. Many others come just for the kicks and for the thrill of participation. Saarang is the fabric that binds us to our sanities. Saarang is what releases us from the clutches of TdS and other complex thermodynamic brain activities. Maxwell quotes Saarang as a prime example of his hypothesis – it’s the second law of thermodynamics gone completely berserk. If it’s the universe’s prerogative to increase entropy and disorder, then Saarang is its most faithful servant. The beauty of anarchy comes alive here, with maddening crowds, raucous audiences and loud, loud music. Saarang has the knack of tickling the right taste buds and appealing to the right senses in every one of us. We don’t know how. We don’t care why. It’s an age old dogma that, to this day is an enigma.
The more perceptive among you might have noticed that this logo looks vaguely familiar. If you spotted it, congratulations, you had your look at the Saarang logo before the rest, even if you didn’t actually know what it was. For those who didn’t, you just have to look at the previous post a bit more sharply. It may not be one in the strictest sense of the word, but it is what we’d like to call our own version of an Easter Egg.
And there’ll be plenty more coming in the next few posts, revealing other such small details about Saarang. So as they say (to no effect) on the television channels, keep watching!
